Getting Back Into The Groove

Something happened . . .

Maybe it was something major:
  • Your spouse asked for a divorce
  • You were diagnosed with a disease
  • You lost your job
  • Your child moved back home
  • You had major surgery
  • You completed a major move
Or maybe it was something minor:

  • You took a vacation
  • You had a three day weekend
  • A friend called to share her upset about something
  • You got behind on something
  • Had an argument with someone
As a result, you are having trouble getting back in the swing of your life or business.
You find yourself:

  • Waking up tired
  • Procrastinating
  • Feeling overwhelmed
  • Uninterested
  • A bit weepy
  • Distracted
I had surgery on April 7th and took four days off to recover, plus made sure I had a light schedule the following week.  The surgery was more extensive than I expected with much more of my body cut open than I had hoped for.  I kept thinking each day I would feel better, have more healing and less pain.

That is not the case.  I had more energy the second week than the third.  I have some searing pain due to the exercises I must do to have my right arm reach over my head again.

It looks like the healing will take at least six weeks and there are additional doctors appointments and procedures to deal with completely resolving the breast cancer.

What is the best way to deal with pulling yourself back on task when you are distracted by major or minor incidents in your life?

Here’s what I do:

  • Feel my emotions (I’ve been weeping a bit today.)
  • Share with others what I am dealing with and ask for support
  • List everything I want and need to get done
  • Determine what will make me feel the best if I do it - I knew writing this email would relieve my guilt about getting off track
  • Use my co-working hours to focus
  • Make public with others what I commit to doing
  • Have compassion for myself
  • Create powerful beliefs to live from - My healing is on track.  I trust myself to get done what’s important to get done.
It can be hard to get back on track without a supportive community.  I am lucky to have my client and coaching groups, plus co-working hours to inspire me.

I am in the process of creating a new year long program designed to support others in moving through major life transitions and empowering them to get focused and live the life of a warrior, fulfilling all of their hopes and dreams.
